Rabbi Ronald Schwarzberg
Rabbi Ronald L. Schwarzberg, CPT, has served as the Director of the Morris and Gertrude Bienenfeld Department of Jewish Career Development and Placement, a division of Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future (CJF), since July 2005. During this period of time he has placed hundreds of RIETS and RCA rabbis in their positions and helped them with their contracts and many other issues rabbis face in the active rabbinate. Rabbi Schwarzberg served from 1986-2005 as senior rabbi of Congregation Ahavas Achim in Highland Park, New Jersey, and prior as associate rabbi of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, New York. Rabbi Schwarzberg developed Ahavas Achim University, an innovative and far-reaching educational endeavour that enlists top-tier scholars and religious leaders to teach at the synagogue and has attracted attendees from across the state. Under Rabbi Schwarzberg’s tenure, Congregation Ahavas Achim moved from New Brunswick to Highland Park where a new building was constructed. Soon the building was too small for the growing congregation and under the current leadership of Rabbi Steven Miodownik the building was renovated and expanded by 2010. Today “AA” is a robust congregation serving over 350 membership units including youth, teens, millennials, young couples, and adults of all ages and backgrounds. Rabbi Schwarzberg serves as an active member of the RCA Retirement Plan Committee and encourages its members to take advantage of the plan in support of providing themselves with financial security in the future for retirement. Rabbi Schwarzberg has served as co-chair of the Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County and as chair of the Rabbinic Cabinet of the United Jewish Communities. In July of 2016, Rabbi Schwarzberg was the keynote speaker at the United Kingdom’s first ever Inspired Jewish Leadership Conference hosted by the United Synagogue (US). The conference focused on inspiring participants in their leadership roles and supporting them with ideas and guidance. In April of 2015, Rabbi Schwarzberg earned his National Academy of Sports Medicine Certification in Personal Training (CPT). In recent years Rabbi Schwarzberg has been focusing on the importance of the synergy between physical well-being and spiritual health. Rabbi Schwarzberg, a graduate of Yeshiva University's Yeshiva College and Ferkauf School of Psychology, received his ordination from YU's affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS). He is married to Morah Judy, a preschool teacher at the Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva. Together they have four children: Ari (and Naomi), Elana Kurtz (and Rabbi Elie), Aviva Reich (and Philip), and Shayna Itzhak (and Noam). They are proud grandparents of seven.
